在阅读过程中，遇到这样的句子:

The vast majority of students didn’t make it past two minutes without texting or checking social media.

后来查字典又看到这样的例句:

In those heels, you won't make it past the driveway.

我的问题是：

这里的 past two minutes 和 past the driveway 是做什么成分呢?

请教过其他人，有的人说有 make sb / sth somewhere 这样的固定搭配，所以这里的 past 介词短语其实就是 somewhere，相当于介词短语做状语。

后来再查字典，我自己觉得可能和下面这个用法是类似的：

make it

to be successful in your career获得成功

He never really made it as an actor.他从来就不是一个成功的演员。

只不过这个例句是 as 介词短语，而我的问题里面的两个句子换成了 past 介词短语。

以下是我自己最开始的猜想，是根据意思来反推句子的结构和成分的，因为涉及到对于形式宾语 it 和宾语补足语的理解，所以想要分享出来，请教各位老师。

我最开始觉得这里 make 的用法是“做成某事”，“某事”就是 make 的宾语，意思和 you can make it 中的 make 一样，但是 you can make it 中 it 完全是抽象的，可以意指不同事情。

说回到我的问题句子：

In those heels, you won't make it past the driveway.

根据意思，“穿着高跟鞋的你”做不成的那件事情就是 past the driveway。也就是说：上面的“做成某事”中的“某事”作为make的宾语，在这个具体例子里，指的就是 past the driveway 这件事情。但是， past the driveway 只是介词短语，它就无法直接做宾语，所以就求助 it，让 it 来做形式宾语，但是真正的宾语内容是 past the driveway。

那么介词短语究竟可不可以做真正宾语呢？我又在字典上 it 作为形式主语或宾语的义项里看到了这个例句：

She finds it boring at home. 她觉得待在家里无聊。

这个例句里面，at home 是真正宾语的内容。既然 at home 可以这样用，那么 past the drive 是否也可以这样用呢？

我想无论是 at home 还是 past the driveway 用作真正宾语，其实都是省略了 being，所以完全的句子分别是：

She finds being at home (is) boring.

In those heels, you won't make it being past the driveway.

还有的人说，这里 it 是真正宾语，past the driveway 是宾语补足语。

我对这种看法的疑虑涉及到对于宾语补足语的理解，特别向各位老师请教：

1.我觉得这里的 it 是一个泛指，而不是具体的代词。我的问题是：it 如果是宾补，它是不是需要有具体意思，而不是一个泛指？

2. 由此而来，宾补需要是宾语的动作和状态，如果 it 只是泛指，它能够发出动作或者呈现状态吗？

我看到资料里的宾补典型例子比如：want him to leave right now，him 既是 want 的宾语又是 to leave 的逻辑主语。“You will find him at work.” 这里 at work 也是介词短语，但是介词短语的主体依然是 find 的宾语 him，是可以改写成：(You will find) he is at work.

但是，在 make it past the driveway 里面，如果把 past the driveway 当做是宾语补足语，它的主体就需要是 it。可是很显然，past the driveway 的主体只能是句子的主语 you。

所以，我对 past the driveway 看做宾语补足语的看法依然存在疑虑。退一万步说，past the driveway 最多只能是主语 you 的补语。关于主语补语的用法，也恳请各位老师指导。
